Claude Made Simple: A Beginner's Guide for Your Phone cover

Claude is an AI assistant you can carry in your pocket, right on your phone. If you’ve heard people talk about “AI apps” and wondered whether one might actually be useful to you — for quick questions, reading something back to you, or looking something up while you’re out — this guide walks you through getting started the safe, simple way. Take it one step at a time. There is no rush.

What Claude Mobile is, in plain words

Claude Mobile is the official Claude app from Anthropic, available for iPhone and Android. Once it’s installed, you can type questions to it the way you’d send a text message, or in some cases speak to it out loud. It’s best for quick questions, voice, photos, and checking connected information while you’re on the go — bigger projects are usually easier on a computer.

Four things you can do right now

1. Install the official app and sign in

On an iPhone, open the App Store. On Android, open Google Play. Search for “Claude by Anthropic,” and check that name carefully before you install anything — it’s worth a moment to verify the publisher. Install the app, open it, and sign in or create an account.

2. Start a chat in plain language

Tap the message box, type your question the way you’d normally speak, and send it. There’s no special wording required — just ask what you want to know. If you want to keep going, ask a follow-up question in the same conversation instead of starting over each time.

3. Try voice mode, if it’s available to you

Look for a voice or sound-wave icon near the message box and tap it. The app will ask permission to use your microphone — allow it, then speak normally. You can switch back to typing whenever you like. Keep in mind that voice availability can vary depending on your plan, your language, and the version of the app you have installed.

4. Share a photo and ask about it

Tap the camera or attachment icon, take or choose a photo, and tell Claude what you’d like it to look at or explain. This is handy for reading a label, understanding a form, or getting a plain- language explanation of something in front of you — just double check anything safety-critical yourself rather than relying on the answer alone.

A word about staying safe on your phone

Keep your phone locked with a passcode or fingerprint/face unlock, especially since a signed-in app can carry more information than it looks like. Never type a password, a one-time login code, or a private security code into a chat — those are meant for you, not for an assistant. And for anything current, medical, legal, or financial, double check the answer using a source you trust before acting on it. Claude can sound confident and still be wrong.
